A couple from Richmond, Texas was experiencing major changes in their life—they were about to become parents for the first time. As happy and excited as they were about having their child, they were equally stressed, only imagining all of the ways their lives would be different. They both had full-time jobs and while the wife had asked for her three-month maternity leave, it was impossible for them to afford full-time help with just one salary. Which was when the wife's mother offered to help them out with the newborn and light housework. She was thrilled when they took her up on her offer to help with her new grandchild. However, she lived in El Paso and the trip back and forth was highly inconvenient, so they decided that she would stay at their place for a while; after all, they had a spare room where she would feel comfortable.

Two weeks before the due date, the couple started cleaning out the guestroom. It hadn't been used except as an extra storage space, so it was a hefty job. However, it was nothing compared to the bathroom. Even though it was rarely used, it wasn't maintained and there was mold in every corner; and what's worse, the caulk had broken in many areas of the shower. Exhausted from all the preparations for the baby and as well as the grandma, they decided to hire Sir Grout Houston's Richmond caulking services to take care of the guest bathroom. It took at least one thing off of their minds! They gave us a call and we set up an appointment for a free evaluation and quote.

On the day of the evaluation, we determined that the shower needed a tile and grout cleaning service followed by a grout repair and caulking. We gave them an estimate and they hired us to do the work as soon as possible, they wanted everything to be ready for the arrival of baby and grandma.

On the day set to do the work, we started by applying our proprietary grout and tile cleaner and steam cleaned the entire surface, to remove all traces of dirt, mold and mildew and soap scum. As the bathroom was rarely used, it was practically never cleaned, and that area of the house experienced high humidity. The lack of use and thus of ventilation and cleaning, made it the perfect place for mold a mildew buildup. Aside from that, the grout and caulking was deteriorating in some areas. We performed some repairs and removed what was left from the old caulk. After that, the shower was ready for the color sealing process. We used our ColorSeal, another one of Sir Grout's proprietary products, which helps even out the color on grout lines, while making it stain, mold and mildew resistant. Then, we carefully installed STAINMASTER epoxy grout into all vertical and horizontal joints. This is a great cost-effective, low maintenance, long term solution. Once that was done, we buffed on Tile Armor, a tile and grout protector that adds an additional protective layer and makes the surfaces easier to clean—an additional advantage of this product is that it is non-toxic, so it's completely safe for the entire family.

Once the job was finished, we called in the family to see the results. They were marveled at how the shower had changed. They told us we had done a fantastic job and thanked us for lifting the task off their shoulders, adding that they could have never gotten the same results if they had done it themselves, and certainly not in the amount of time it took us.

We offered some recommendations to help them maximize the value of our services and told them they should always use a pH-neutral, soap-free tile cleaner for any tile surfaces around the house and to never let the shower airdry after cleaning. This particular shower had no ventilation, so we explained that stagnant water or cleaner could cause dust and dirt to settle on the grout lines, so the bathroom door should be left open after showering as well, to make sure there was enough air to prevent potential mold and mildew re-growth.
