How a Grout Cleaning in Magnolia, TX Renovated this Entire Bathroom in Just One Day
May 22, 2017
For this homeowner, having her bathrooms immaculate was a priority. She was a high-school teacher in Magnolia, Texas, who was meticulous about sealing and proper care for her hard surfaces, therefore her floors always looked pristine. When she finally decided to search for a new apartment closer to school, it was hard for her to find a place with surfaces that were held up to her standards. After a long search, she found a well-located apartment, but the main bathroom needed urgent restoration. She decided to buy the property anyway because the design of the whole place was perfectly fitting for her.As soon as she settled into her new home, the homeowner began to make the repairs needed: repaint the walls, replace the cabinets in the kitchen, install a new AC system, and add lighting in the studio where she wanted to create lesson plans and grade tests. To repair the grout situation in the bathroom, she wanted to try a new grout cleaning company in Magnolia since she wasn't pleased with the last one she hired. The bathroom needed a decent amount of work done–the shower, the floor, and the wall tiles all needed cleaning. She went online to search for a company and found Sir Grout Houston's website among the first search results.
Once the Magnolia resident read all about our wide array of services and saw the before and after pictures of our previous work in the area, she decided to trust in our services and filled out the "Request a Quote" form on our website to schedule an appointment for that same week. We received and confirmed the petition short after.
Our team of experts visited the home on the scheduled day to inspect the room and meet the client. At first glance, we found many signs of deterioration and lack of proper maintenance, such as hardwater buildup in the shower floor, mold and mildew in the grout lines, and missing grout on the walls. In the bathroom wall, we found a line of missing grout, probably caused by water that seeped through the window and into the room.
Since the client had just moved in, she didn't know anything about the cleaning methods and maintaining procedures the previous owners had, but there were several problems that she wanted to fix, especially the missing grout. She knew the disastrous consequences these problems can bring to a surface—fallen tiles, damage to the structure's foundations, mold growth, among others—and wanted to fix them promptly to prevent further deterioration.
Repairing the whole bathroom seemed like a challenge for all the different types and sizes of tile, but it was nothing our craftsmen couldn't solve in just a day. For a full makeover, we proposed to the client that aside from repairing the problems she mentioned, we could also perform a ColorSeal service to restore the grout of the bathroom floor, and a glass treatment for the shower door. She agreed without a second thought and asked us to start as soon as we could.
We returned to the property a few days later to start the job. To begin this full bathroom restoration process, we started with the shower. With Sir Grout's tile and grout cleaner and a high-speed yet gentle scrubber, we removed the embedded dirt, the hardwater spots, and the mold and mildew around the shower tiles. Once everything was clean and dry, we used ColorSeal, a thick, water-based acrylic sealer for grout. For the shower floor, we decided to switch to Epoxy ColorSeal, which is similar to the regular ColorSeal, except this is made of one-part epoxy and is more durable—we use this product on shower floors because this grout gets much more abuse. We also restored the glass door using vapor steam cleaning. To finish with the shower, we wiped down the whole shower surface to make sure there was no residue.
As for the rest of the room, we performed the same cleaning procedure for the cream-colored tiles that covered the bathroom's walls and floor, repaired and replaced the missing grout, and applied ColorSeal as well. The restoration took us all day, but the difference was outstanding. The client was thrilled by how much the room changed thanks to the grout recoloring. What's more, our ColorSeal and Epoxy ColorSeal made the surfaces stain, water-, mold-, and mildew-resistant so that the client wouldn't have to worry about hardwater spots or any other kind of stain.
As we do with every client, we walked the Magnolia resident through a care and maintenance guide to keep the shower looking brand-new. The client already knew the basics: always use a soap-less, pH-neutral cleaner—which is safe for grout—and keep the room well-ventilated to prevent mold and mildew growth. We added that to clean the bathroom she should always use a clean towel or terry cloth to dry the floor to prevent dirty cleaner from settling into the grout lines. As for periodic maintenance, we suggested professional cleaning at least once a year to keep the room always looking as good as new.
